The Naval Science & Technological Laboratory (NSTL) in Visakhapatnam has developed the indigenous Multi-Influence Ground Mine (MIGM), an advanced underwater naval mine designed to enhance India’s maritime defense capabilities.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), in collaboration with the Indian Navy, has successfully conducted a combat firing trial using reduced explosives of the indigenously designed Multi-Influence Ground Mine (MIGM). This advanced underwater naval mine was developed by the Naval Science & Technological Laboratory in Visakhapatnam, alongside DRDO’s High Energy Materials Research Laboratory in Pune and Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory in Chandigarh.
Engineered to enhance the Indian Navy’s capabilities against modern stealth ships and submarines, the MIGM is set to be produced by Bharat Dynamics Limited in Visakhapatnam and Apollo Microsystems Limited in Hyderabad. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commended DRDO, the Indian Navy, and industry partners for this achievement, stating that the system will further strengthen the Navy’s undersea warfare capabilities. Dr. Samir V Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, confirmed that with this successful validation trial, the system is now ready for induction into the Indian Navy.
