Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, addressing the 66th Raising Day of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) at Manekshaw Centre, Delhi Cantt on May 07, 2025, stated that through Operation Sindoor, India exercised its ‘Right to Respond’ to the attack on its soil. He commended the Armed Forces for their historic precision, caution, and compassion in dismantling terrorist training camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Singh emphasized that the operation was executed as planned, ensuring no harm to civilian populations. He lauded the Armed Forces for delivering a decisive response under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually inaugurated 50 strategic infrastructure projects by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), comprising 30 bridges, 17 roads, and three other works, during the 66th Raising Day event at Manekshaw Centre, Delhi Cantt on May 7, 2025. These projects, constructed at a total cost of ₹1,879 crore, span across six border states and two Union Territories—Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Mizoram, West Bengal, and Rajasthan. They aim to enhance connectivity, bolster national security, and promote economic development in remote regions.
Over the past two years, BRO has completed a record 161 infrastructure projects worth ₹5,600 crore, including 111 projects in the previous year. In the last four years, the organization has successfully executed 456 infrastructure projects, totaling an expenditure of ₹13,743 crore.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed confidence that the 50 Border Roads Organisation (BRO) infrastructure projects inaugurated on May 7, 2025, will significantly enhance connectivity, bolster national security, and stimulate economic development in the border regions. He emphasized that these initiatives are not merely infrastructure developments but vital pathways leading to a prosperous future for the nation.
Highlighting the strategic importance of BRO’s work, Singh noted that modern defence capabilities are not solely reliant on advanced weaponry but also on the robust infrastructure supporting them. He pointed out that even the most advanced military equipment is ineffective if it cannot be deployed promptly to critical locations. Singh commended the BRO personnel for their dedication and efforts in ensuring the nation’s security through their infrastructural contributions.
In light of the current geopolitical landscape, Singh underscored the necessity of developing next-generation infrastructure for the Armed Forces. He urged the BRO to ensure that preparations are at a war-ready level, emphasizing the importance of strategic infrastructure in maintaining national security.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reaffirmed the government’s commitment to border area development, highlighting the Sela Tunnel as a testament to this dedication. He emphasized that the tunnel not only enhances connectivity but also symbolizes the government’s resolve to improve infrastructure in strategically important regions. Singh also underscored Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to revitalize border villages, noting initiatives like the Vibrant Villages Programme, which aims to construct approximately 35 kilometers of roads daily to boost connectivity and development in these areas.
Director General of Border Roads (DGBR), Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan, discussed the growing national significance of the BRO, stating that the organization has become the preferred agency for executing infrastructure projects in challenging terrains. He reaffirmed BRO’s commitment to the well-being and dignity of its workforce, including GREF personnel and Casual Paid Labourers.
The event was attended by various dignitaries, including Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minister of Minority Affairs Shri Kiran Rijiju, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology; Earth Sciences, MoS PMO, PP/DoPT, Atomic Energy and Space Dr. Jitendra Singh, Chief of the Army Staff Gen Upendra Dwivedi, Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh, and other senior officials of the Ministry of Defence. Governors and Chief Ministers of several states and Union Territories, including Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Mizoram, and West Bengal, joined the event virtually.
